Something To Crow About

Surprise! We’ve got a rooster in our flock.

Rooster Face

Our chickens have been maturing quickly, and we were surprised to find a rooster in the bunch. We hadn’t expected to have a rooster, but as the chicks started to grow, we could tell this one was different. “She” kept trying to crow! We had heard of females sometimes acting like this as they matured, and so “she” received the nickname Sheryl Crow. We’d hear small crowing noises from the chickens, and we’d say, “Oh that Sheryl is back at it. Poor girl.”

Well, she showed us, and turned out to be a he!

Now, he definitely stands out with his white and black markings and bright red beak.

The Ladies

He’s become quite mindful of his flock, but we’re not sure the ladies know what to think of him yet.

Alert Rooster

We were excited to discover our surprise rooster; although, at 4:30 a.m. he seems a little less appealing. And, his name has stuck, so he’ll always be Sheryl Crow to us.
